Our first priority are to GSP's and Pointer's in shelter situations. Our ability to help an individual dog is based on foster home availability, location of the dog, and temperament evaluation results. Ideally, a pointing breed being surrendered to us would be placed directly from the surrendering home to the new adopter's home. The less change and stress the dog experiences, the better. If this option is not possible due to special circumstances, only then do we explore foster care options. Accepted dogs may require a delay until foster care is available as we always have a waiting list.
We are an all volunteer organization and we do the best we can with limited resources. You can be assured that once GPPR accepts a dog into our program, we will always be here as its safety net. Any dog placed by us is bound by contract to return to GPPR if the new owner can no longer keep him or her at any time in the future OR is not living up to their contractual obligations agreed to at the time of adoption.
If GPPR is listing a dog as a courtesy post, the dog must be spayed/neutered. We do not list unaltered dogs on our website for homes. If we do not hear back from an owner within 2 weeks of listing the post, we will remove the dog. We ask that adopters update us if they have found additional placement. OWNER SURRENDERS: We also require a donation to the rescue to list your dog for a home.
We encourage you to complete the Placement form to find a foster home. Completing the form helps us to gather the information needed to help find proper placement or share on the website. It does not guarantee we can accept the dog. Please note that GPPR does not accept aggressive dogs. All of our foster homes have other dogs and we will not risk the saftey of our volunteers or their pets and will not re adopt aggressive dogs to families.
Requirements for surrender into foster care with GPPR:
-A completed and submitted Placement form
-Have no history of bites or aggression to people or other dogs
-Current on all shots, including a recent heart worm test, and preferably be on heart worm preventative
-Pass a temperament evaluation
