Volunteer & Foster Opportunities

Great Plains Pointer Rescue is entirely volunteer run. We rely on people like you to give German Shorthaired Pointers the care, training, and homes they need.

Whether you’re interested in fostering, helping with transport, assisting at events, or providing administrative support, there’s a place for you. Fostering is our most critical need, but all contributions make a difference.

Why Foster?

Foster homes are where our dogs truly thrive. Living in a real home allows us to understand their personality, behavior, and needs before adoption.

Fosters provide:
  • Day-to-day care, structure, and socialization
  • Insights about behavior and training needs
  • A safe, loving environment while the dog waits for a permanent home
We cover all veterinary care and provide guidance, support, and resources to make fostering manageable and rewarding.

Fostering is a commitment, but it’s also an opportunity to directly impact a dog’s life and help them find the perfect forever home.

Who Makes a Good Foster?

You don’t need to be a professional trainer or have a perfect home. Successful fosters are:
  • Communicative and responsive
  • Realistic about the dog’s needs and energy level
  • Willing to work with our team to ensure the best match for each dog
Fosters often find that their experience is as rewarding as it is educational. Watching a dog blossom in a home environment is life-changing.

Other Volunteer Roles

Not everyone can foster, but there are many ways to help:
  • Transporting dogs to vet appointments or meet-and-greets
  • Assisting with events or outreach
  • Administrative support such as data entry or website updates
  • Helping with photography, social media, or marketing
Every volunteer role allows us to rescue and rehome more dogs. Your time and skills are deeply appreciated.

Getting Started

  1. Decide how you want to help. You can foster a dog, assist with transport, support events, or contribute in other volunteer roles.
  2. Complete our volunteer or foster application. This helps us match you to the role that best fits your skills and availability.
Once approved, we provide guidance, resources, and ongoing support to make your experience rewarding and successful.
